The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has drastically expanded its mission and vision since the 1950s. The museum was originally founded as the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Museum. This early version focused on cowboy history and culture but not other elements of the American West. Find out more here.
Since then, the museum broadened its collections to include other parts of western history. Visitors can explore twelve different galleries including Native American arts and history, rodeo culture, landscape, sculpture, firearms, and more. You’ll find modern and antique pieces that highlight both the history and the current state of the American West.
Visit Liichokoshkomo’ For Hands-On Learning At The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
Visitors of all ages will love a visit to Liichokoshkomo’, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s interactive learning center. This 100,000 square foot complex features endless opportunities to explore life as it was lived in the West. Children and families can visit a replica Kiowa tipi, Puebloan cliff dwelling, prairie sod house, trading post, train depot, Chickasaw council house, and more. These lifesize buildings are a portal back in time, showing visitors many traditional western ways of life.

Awards, Contests, And Halls Of Fame At The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is actively honoring and preserving western culture with a variety of awards. The museum maintains several Halls of Fame including the Hall of Great Westerners, Hall of Great Western Performers, and the National Rodeo Hall of Fame. Inductees represent the best, most influential westerners of the modern era.
The museum also promotes new western art. The Prix de West is an annual art show, auction, and fundraiser that benefits the museum. Western artists are invited to submit landscapes, portraits, sculptures, and other works every summer. Plan your visit between June and August to see the Prix de West entries for yourself.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is open seven days a week including most holidays. If you get hungry during your visit, try The Museum Grill for lunch. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $9.75 for students, and $5.75 for children ages 6-12. Children five and under are free.
