Point of Interest – Lake Hefner

Lake Hefner is a popular place to engage in just about all outdoor activities in one beautiful place. There are countless things to do both on land and on the water. While there is no swimming allowed in this lake, there are plenty of other great things to do every day of the week. It’s the perfect place to spend more time outdoors and to be physically active.

Spending Time on Land

When you want to stay on the land, there are a number of fun activities to engage in. Many people enjoy the paved trails that stretch for almost 10 miles. The trails go around the lake for optimal views as you enjoy yourself. Fun seekers can use these trails for biking, running, walking, and skating. Many people also like to enjoy the amazing sunsets that light up the sky above the lake. There is also a lighthouse to enjoy and to take pictures in front of. From playing games to taking the family outside for some fun, there are many great ways to use the area of land around the lake. More can be learned here.

On the south side of the lake, golfers love spending time at the Lake Hefner Golf Course. There is also Stars and Stripes Park where there are sports fields, a BMX park, and a playground for the kids.

Spending Time on the Water

Many people love Lake Hefner for all of the water sports and activities that are available. An adventure shop is right there to rent you a kayak to enjoy the picturesque lake in the summer. There is also a sailing camp that is perfect for letting kids learn how to sail. Boating is allowed on the lake with a permit. On some days there are waves on the lake, making it seem like a mini ocean. When the wind picks up, the lake is full of billowing sails from the many boats that go out to enjoy the day. Many visitors also go paddle boarding for exercise and enjoyment of the water or choose kitesurfing. Next article here.

The lake is also teeming with life, so it’s a great place to go fishing. As long as you have a fishing license, you can fish from the shore or from one of the many docks. If you want to fish during the winter, there is even a heated dock that will make it far more comfortable.

Places to Eat

When you’re spending time on the lake, you’ll need a few places to eat to choose from on its shores. Hefner Grill is a popular place for fresh seafood that’s made in a way that’s uniquely Oklahoma, and it has views over the water. To stay close to the water, there is Red Rock Canyon Grill. It has a large patio right on the east wharf’s edge. It has great views of the sunsets over the water and Southwestern dishes. Louie’s Grill and Bar is a casual restaurant will a classic American menu, an open patio, and plenty of TVs to see the game on. Mama Roja Mexican Kitchen is there for those who love Mexican flavors.
